Salt Bakehouse has a stall at Stroud Farmers’ Market that sells their delicious artisan breads. This includes some fantastic tasting brown and while loaves. Salt Bakehouse is an artisan bakery in the nearby town of Stonehouse. They have won many awards for their breads including at the World Bread Awards. SALT Bakehouse also has stores in Gloucestershire including in Stroud. Their bread can also be purchased from some specialist food shops throughout the county, including the Jolly Nice Farm Shop.

The Crusty Loaf Bakery in Coleford is an award-winning baker and is the place to shop if you love bread or cakes. I’ve tried most of their bread rolls, white and brown, during my walking break. However, their brown malted roll was my favourite.

The Artisan Baker has a stall at Stroud Farmer’s Market with an interesting range of bread products. They are an award-winning organic micro-bakery from the Cotswolds. Products available include sourdough, rye breads, regular loaves and much more. They also have a shop in the Five Valleys Market in Stroud too. They are considered one of the best bakeries in The Cotswolds.

Jane’s Pantry

At various places in the county, including Gloucester city centre and Churchdown, are chains of Jane’s Pantry. Jane’s Pantry is a local bakery that sells breads, cakes and pastries. They are a great place for things to take home or sandwiches out. My favourite is their brown bread which they use for sandwiches including their epic coronation chicken one. Their pies and savoury pastries are delicious too, include their lamb slice and curry pasty. For those with a sweet tooth, the Jane’s Pantry Gloucester dripping cake is wonderful. There are currently discounts on a bread-making course with lunch at Graham’s Bakery in Quedgeley, Gloucester. This is a full day course and teaches you how to bake many loaves of bread.

Harts Barn Cookery School in The Forest of Dean

In the Forest of Dean is Harts Barn, they do a variety of cookery classes, including the art of bread making. They also host foodie related events, pop-up restaurants and demonstrations. They also do a gluten-free cooking workshop.
