Churchdown is a village in Gloucestershire, between Gloucester and Cheltenham. The village of Churchdown is unusual in having two centres. Churchdown’s old centre is near St Andrew’s Church; the new centre is near St John’s Church. This is a relatively large village, with a population exceeding 11000. It is in a semi-rural environment.

The local landmark is Churchdown Hill (also known as Chosen Hill), which rises to 154m above sea level and has views over the Vale of Severn and to the Cotswolds, Gloucester, Cheltenham, the Malverns and Wales. The hill is great for walking but can be steep in places, but the views are worth the climb.

St Bartholomew’s Church is on ancient Christian site near the peak of Churchdown hill. The building is pretty special and the grounds are an excellent viewpoint. The area on the hill is very nice walking country. Be warned, it is steep on the way up.

Their main dining room can seat 100 people and is open from 12 pm until 10 pm. Weekly on a Sunday, The Old Elm Inn serves a great Sunday lunch. Their main menu includes delights like duck, salmon and options like steak. They also have guest accommodation above the pub that they include breakfast in the morning.

The Hare & Hounds is a Greene King pub on the main Cheltenham Road in the village. The Hare and Hounds is a family-friendly village pub that has a beer garden to sit and enjoy your time in the sun. They have a comprehensive menu including chicken wings, steak & ale pie, gammon and eggs and a variety of other dishes.

Brickhampton Court Golf Course

Brickhampton Court is a golfing area in Churchdown with both 18 or 9-hole courses for you to enjoy a round. They also have a lighted driving range & a clubhouse in a beautiful setting. Brickhampton Court consists of two charming tree-lined courses that over the years have matured and now provide a great test of both ability and strategy. To go with the two the golf courses they have a 28 bay floodlit driving range and practice putting green. The site also has an excellent bar, restaurant and conferencing facilities.

Churchdown Male Voice Choir

They formed the choir in 1965. The 70 strong choir takes its members from all over the county.

In the last few years the choir has had the great privilege of appearing with orchestras, choirs, brass and military bands and, in concerts with the English Association of Male Voice Choirs and National Association of Choirs, has shared the platform with such luminaries as Shirley Bassey, Dame Vera Lynn, Sir Cliff Richard, Tom Jones, Max Boyce, Dennis O’Neil and other major stars.

Under its conductor Ralph Barnes, and accompanist James Quinn, the choir performs around 20 concerts a year raising money for local and national charities. Every year the choir likes to have at least one major concert, which raises money for local and national charities. http://www.churchdownmvc.org/
