Gloucester Docks usually host The Tall Ships Festival on the Spring Bank Holiday weekend in May. This is a fun event for all the family and people travel from far and wide to see the ships and enjoy the fun. This is a splendid chance to see some historic boats and learn about their history.

This event takes place on the Spring Bank holiday weekend every 2 years on odd number years, the last one being in 2019. However, the schedule may be influenced by the current pandemic.

Bygone days from the Victorian period are brought to life at the Gloucester Tall Ships festival. While exploring the tall ships you’ll also be able to see pirate’s sword fighting, catch a sea shanty, other activities and visit fantastic food and drink and craft stalls. The Event Includes;

The Gloucester Shanty Festival will provide young inquisitive minds with a look at folk and maritime traditions around the city centre.
The many old but restored Victorian warehouses that make an interesting backdrop for the Tall Ships Festival. The docks formed when the Canal from Sharpness opened in 1827 and allowed boats to bypass a treacherous part of the River Severn. The ships usually arrive via the canal after travelling up the Bristol Channel.
