Gloucester Docks usually host The Tall Ships Festival on the Spring Bank Holiday weekend in May. This is a fun event for all the family and people travel from far and wide to see the ships and enjoy the fun. This is a splendid chance to see some historic boats and learn about their history.

Gloucester Shanty Festival
The Gloucester Shanty Festival will provide young, inquisitive minds with a look at folk and maritime traditions around the city centre. This is a fun event and great if you enjoy live performances.
The many old but restored Victorian warehouses that make an interesting backdrop for the Festival. Gloucester docks formed when the Canal from Sharpness opened in 1827 and allowed boats to bypass a treacherous part of the River Severn. The ships usually arrive via the canal after travelling up the Bristol Channel.
