Alex Polizzi – Chefs on Trial
Alex Polizzi: Chefs on Trial is a brand new series, which sees Alex Polizzi take on the difficult challenge of finding Head Chefs for restaurants that have a desperate need to fill a vacancy.
Hiring a Head Chef can make or break a business. But hiring one who is an outstanding cook and can handle the pressure and the pricing is challenging for many restaurateurs. Over a week the show follows candidates as they go through a rigorous interview process. As well as testing their technical cooking skills, all candidates will have a face to face interview and a chance to cook a signature dish that shows off their culinary abilities. But at the end of the week only one can get the job. The Miners Arms is a busy Forest Of Dean village pub, owned and run by Mario and Karen Constantinides.
Karen said: “ It was a very exciting and emotional two weeks of filming with a great film crew who became part of the family ,by the end and we were sad to see them go. The process of interviewing and putting candidates through their paces on camera was unusual to say the least, stressful, and as you may see from the programmes pretty emotional at times. Mario and I have to thank Alex Polizzi for being such a great help, guide and friend through the whole process of finding our new great chef.” Alex Polizzi said: “Mario and Karen Constantinides turned the run-down Miners Arms, in the heart of the Forest of Dean, into the busy country pub it is today.
However in such a rural location they have struggled to find a good Head Chef, who respects the local produce. Without a chef, Mario has had to take over the kitchen, meaning he has had little time to focus on the business. The right chef will help Mario transform the Miners from a country pub to gastro destination.” Alex Polizzi: Chefs on Trial starts on Monday, 20th April on BBC Two. The Miners Arms will feature in four episodes later in the series.
I visited the Miners Arms in Whitecroft and spent the afternoon enjoying the cider on offer in this nice country pub. Followed by a networking event with #forestofdeanhour and sampled some of the food on offer very nice !
