New bars, pubs, and restaurants are here for you to visit and enjoy good food with friends, or a civilised drink with colleagues.

Greek on the Docks: The Best Greek Restaurant in Gloucester

This is a very nice and posh Greek restaurant on the dockside, with indoor and outdoor seating. Greek on the Docks serves excellent, authentic, traditional food. They also have an impressive wine list to accompany your meal.

A standout item on their menu is the seafood platter to share, which has fish and shellfish. I’ve also enjoyed the calamari and souvlaki when dining out here. Greek on The Docks is one of my favourite restaurants in Gloucester.

Anatolian Palace A Turkish Restaurant

Another fantastic restaurant in Gloucester is Anatolian Palace, a Turkish restaurant. You can find Anatolian Palace near Gloucester Quays. It’s a lovely, clean, and nicely decorated restaurant. The vibe inside is fun, and they love to make diners feel welcome. They have some good drink options, including Efes, a tasty Turkish beer.

They have a big menu with lots of Turkish options, including plenty of grilled meats. We opted for their meze sharing platter, followed by the grilled meat platter. Both were delicious and well presented, and we left very full. Overall, a great addition to the Gloucester restaurant scene.

Ye Olde Restaurant & Fish Shoppe

Another fantastic place to eat out in Gloucester city centre is Ye Olde Restaurant & Fish Shoppe. They are primarily a fish and chip shop; however, they also have a dining area to the rear. Their dining room is cosy, and the service we got was good.

They offer various food options, including cod and chips, which we enjoyed. We opted for curry sauce and mushy peas with our meal out, which was delicious. They also have good drink options, including soft drinks and beers. Overall, I was impressed with my meal out at Ye Olde Restaurant & Fish Shoppe.

Café Rene

In a fantastic location near St Mary De Crypt Church is the fantastic Café René. Primarily a pub and entertainment venue, it is also a great place to eat. Café René is a great place to eat out. It has a dedicated dining room and outdoor seating for some alfresco sustenance.

Café René’s menu contains hearty meals at a very reasonable price. Their varied menu offers plenty of options. Café René is primarily a steakhouse that prides itself on expertly grilled prime cuts of steak.

They also serve a fantastic burger, which is great for lunch out. Café René also has a wonderful selection of drinks, including beers and ciders.

Bill’s at Gloucester Quays

Bill’s in Gloucester Quays is a contemporary European chain eatery that serves separate breakfast, afternoon tea, lunch, and dinner menus. They offer a superb choice of healthy, seasonal food. They also offer a special Christmas menu each year, full of treats. Bill’s also has a decent drinks menu, including some excellent wines and beers. On my visits to Bill’s, the food and service were both great.

Brewhouse & Kitchen on The Waterfront

Brewhouse & Kitchen is a waterfront restaurant on the banks of the Gloucester-Sharpness Canal near The Quays. They offer an excellent variety of beer types, some of which are very special. They made us very welcome for our meal out at Brewhouse & Kitchen. Brewhouse & Kitchen also made the dog very welcome, including bringing him a fresh bowl of water to keep him refreshed.

This place is a very nice eatery and microbrewery. The decor theme is all about brewing, which they did tastefully. There was seating on over 2 floors and also outside seating with heating for a nice waterfront place to eat or drink. There was an excellent choice of drinks, including both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. I opted for their ginger beer on this visit but, in the past, have enjoyed an array of lagers. My favourite drink here is Tongerlo, a very strong Belgian lager.

For dinner, the pork rib was a delicious starter, followed by their Moroccan lamb stew. I’ve also enjoyed their beer-baked chicken with some fantastic sides. Both were delicious, and I cannot wait to return. The menu also includes a wonderful choice of meal options.

Coal Kitchen in The Docks

In the old Pillar & Lucy Warehouse at the docks, Coal Kitchen is a marvellous place to eat. The interior is very nice to look at, with exposed brickwork, timber beams, and low ceilings. They also have outside seating for sunny days.

Coal Bar & Grill loves to use fresh ingredients in their selection of grills, pizzas, pasta and salads. They are also veggie-friendly and have a great cocktail menu. The restaurant specialises in barbecue food straight from the grill, including chicken, steaks, rack of ribs and beef brisket. @aboutglos have enjoyed a few meals here, and they cooked the food nicely, especially their steaks.

The Comfy Pew

Near the main gate of Gloucester Cathedral is The Comfy Pew. The Comfy Pew is a licensed restaurant and coffee shop in a Tudor-listed building.

They serve some great homemade food, including soup with crusty bread or a ploughman’s platter. They have some interesting desserts, including some traditional classics.

The Queens Head in Longford

In Longford, just outside of Gloucester city centre, is The Queens Head, a quaint traditional country pub and eatery. It has a nice rustic dining area with great local pictures on the walls. The Queens Head serves delicious, tasty home-cooked food, the highlight being their lamb, mashed potato and mint gravy. They also have other pleasant options on their menu, including pork belly, steak, and vegetarian options.

Topoly’s For Italian Food

One Southgate Street in Gloucester is Topoly’s, an Italian restaurant. It’s an independent Italian eatery serving authentic, delicious food. Their menu includes Italian staples like pasta, pizza and meats. Overall, a great place to eat out if you enjoy Italian cuisine.

The Tall Ship in The Docks

At Gloucester Docks is The Tall Ship, a pub/restaurant specialising in fish and seafood. The eatery’s main offerings are beer, wine, and seafood, and they deliver them well. You can dine out in their nice dining area or garden. The Tall Ship also has a special board for diners to enjoy something unique. The menu includes delights like freshly dressed crab, sardines, or salmon, to name a few.

Côte Brasserie at Gloucester Quays

At The Quays on Merchants Road is Côte Brasserie, a French eatery. Cote is a modern French brasserie chain restaurant that serves excellent food all day long. Their menu has French regional specialities and traditional classic dishes from France.

The Cote menu includes great starters, including French onion soup, calamari, and baked goat cheese from the Loire Valley. For the main course, you can choose from Breton fish stew, mussels with white wine, and many meat options. They also serve a fantastic chateaubriand for sharing, an ideal dish for date night. I’ve enjoyed a few steaks and beers at Cote and found it a fantastic place for a meal out.

In Town Thai Cuisine

One of my favourite places for Thai cuisine in the county is In Town, which is on St Aldate Street. It’s quite an informal place with upstairs and downstairs dining. I’ve tried quite a few items on their menu, and they were all packed full of flavour. I really enjoyed their noodles, including pad Thai. Their food is reasonably priced and well worth a visit for lunch or an evening meal.

Bangkok Canteen

On Westgate Street in Gloucester is the fantastic Bangkok Canteen, a popular Thai restaurant. They have a comprehensive Thai menu, with plenty of delicious vegan options. For vegans, they serve chickpea red curry, crispy aubergine, and many other choices. They are a popular place to dine out, with fantastic reviews.
