Fish & Chip Shops in Gloucester
There are many options for fish & chip restaurants & takeaways in Gloucester City Centre. The chippies of the city sell traditional options, including cod, haddock and pies. Most sell battered or plain Gloucester sausages and other delights. Some also sell delicious faggots and onions to have with a portion of chips.

I love to sit in a place with a view, enjoying a chippy lunch, including at the cathedral. There are also some great options in the suburbs of the city.
The Best Fish & Chip Shops in Gloucester
These are my favourite chippies that I’ve tried in Gloucester and have enjoyed their food.
Ye Olde Restaurant and Fish Shoppe

On Hare Lane, close to Gloucester Cathedral, is Ye Olde Restaurant and Fish Shoppe. This is the oldest and longest-running chip shop in the city. They serve some fantastic food, including a tasty fish and chip supper. There is a park opposite with benches to eat alfresco or a 1-minute walk to enjoy on the grounds of the cathedral.

Ye Olde Restaurant and Fish Shoppe are on one of the City of Gloucester’s oldest streets, Hare Lane. This used to be the primary thoroughfare from Gloucester to the north. In the past, the road had many taverns and houses for artisans and merchants. They built the building in approximately 1530. However, it’s listed as being of special architectural interest.
Queens Fish & Chip Restaurant in Gloucester

Queen’s Restaurant on Barnwood Road has a takeaway traditional chippy for customers to collect their delicious offerings. This is one of a few great chippies in the Longlevens area. They also have a sit-down restaurant for those that want to dine out.
London Road Supper Bar

The menu for London Road Supper Bar includes fish & chips, chicken, pizza, wraps, kebabs and more. This is one of the nicest chippy suppers delivered to Gloucester addresses, according to residents of a local retirement village. Their kebabs are not for the connoisseur. Their pizzas were very reasonable, and their small fish and chips were more than enough for most appetites. Order Online.
Hardwicke Chippy

Near the small Tesco store in Hardwicke is a newish local chippy. They cook all the food here to order and to a high standard. Their pie and chips are a great dish, especially the steak and kidney pies. The Hardwicke Chippy’s take on fish and chips is delicious and one of the best around. Their portions are big, and their curry sauce is a delicious addition to the fish dinner.
Ruddys

Ruddys is a popular place in the Longlevens area of the city near the King Edward Pub. They have a great reputation for fish and chips, and I agree. I’ve enjoyed many meals here, including cod, chip butties and battered sausages. It’s a slick-looking place, and dishes are cooked fresh, so there’s a bit of a wait.
