I visited Severn & Wye Smokery for my birthday lunch and had a very nice local fish meal. The smoker is on the A48 in Chaxhill near Minsterworth and Westbury on Severn. They combine the restaurant and the food shop with a nice comfortable seating area and well-presented food, including local fish.
The Restaurant in Chaxhill
The restaurant is open for lunch from midday until 2:30 pm, Monday-Saturday. It also opens for evening meals on a Friday night from 5:30 pm until 9 pm.
The restaurant serves food in the food hall and is a very comfortable and nice atmosphere; the food is delicious; I have detailed what I ate below but the specialities include;
- Flash fried smoked Severn & Wye eel fillet on a bed of mashed potato. They serve this with local cream, Tewkesbury mustard, and Severn cider sauce.
- The Smokery Slate, a trio of our own smoked fish with fresh horseradish and local bread.
- Pan-fried Cardigan Bay scallops and Cornish monkfish.
The Food Shop
The Severn & Wye food hall stocks lots of local produce. This includes selling cheese, a deli counter, chocolate and has a fantastic fish counter.
My Meal at Severn & Wye Smokery
For my meal, we had a crab starter and also nicely cooked mussels. For the main course, we had the trio of our own smoked fish. All were delicious and enjoyed it all, will return and recommend to anyone who likes fish.
